The film, about Francesca Johnson, a 1960s Italian-immigrant housewife in Iowa who meets and falls in love with a drifter photographer for National Geographic, is adapted from the 1992 book of the same name.

The film was also directed by Clint Eastwood, who cast himself in the lead role of the dashing mysterious Robert Kincaid from Washington state. Streep does an Italian accent with a slight Iowan lilt that will make you just want to quit trying anything, because she’s already mastered it.
